As soon as a new client arrives, the Courage to Change staff starts working towards the time they transition out of the program. The client's time spent at the ranch is not about recovery; it is just the beginning of breaking their cycle of addiction. During their stay client's will gain the tools necessary for recovery - which begins the day of their transition.
It is on their return to the "real world" that former residents will apply every lesson they learned at the ranch; every support system they developed, every trigger point they learned to deal with, and every treasured insight...to begin their journey of recovery.
The staff tries to "transition" them, and send them out with some of the tools they need. Beyond that, we cannot be there to hold their hands.
Or can we?
Actually, the C2C staff is only a phone call away. Very few of our residents leave, never to be heard from again. Many call frequently during their first weeks, to talk to staff or other residents, to share success stories or to order more neuroceuticals. C2C counselors also follow up with phone calls to keep the lines of communication and trust open.
Many former clients return to the ranch for the weekly Talking Circles, or for the bi-monthly Sweat Lodges to rejuvenate their spirit and reaffirm their commitment to a life of sobriety.
Because we understand that the road to recovery is the road less traveled - former clients are always welcome to return for a weekend respite at the ranch to hone their recovery tools.
